I will always assume, that when the WT gets a lot of questions or hear of murmuring (from dubs or ex jw's) about a subject, they jump into action to find someone of "authority" to support their side.

Did You Know Any "Genuine"" Old School Anointed?
by Number 6 ingrowing up in scotland in the 1970s in scotland the anointed were few and far between, but we had one old dude in our cong who claimed to be one of the anointed.
in the days when it was taken seriously.. i'd be curious how you viewed them.
thing is, he wasn't an elder, or even a ministerial servant, just a plain old publisher.. but he was revered like he had a hotline to jesus.. the other week i was talking to a friend of similar age to me but who hung around the wt a lot longer than i did, and he just commented "oh him... he was a doddery old fool who used to just sit and piss himself.

The most colorful anointed one we had in our hall when I was young, had apparently "died" at the hospital but awoke in the morgue.
She always wore nice clothes that belonged in the 50's with black patent leather shoes with pointy toes and 1 1/4" inch tiny heels. Back when they had live music in the halls, she would come up to the piano, sweep her skirt under her backside and sit on the bench. Then with a flourish she would start pounding out the melody. She sometimes lost her way and would start over again much to the frustration of the conductor. She was so animated that she reminded me of those silent movie accompanists. Even into her eighties, she wore the same clothes with cat's eye glasses. The only real conversation I had with her involved a telephone cord that was used to subdue a person that had attacked her. The whole hall tolerated her and wasn't mean to her. She was a cheerful crazy person.
Another was a sister who was very down to earth and looked like Shirley Winters when she was younger. Her mother was anointed and had lived in a convent for most of her life. She became anointed when she was around 30 or so. It made my mother jealous because she couldn't figure out why her and not me? She was humble, kind and funny. Never made a big deal out of it and had the attitude of "well he said he would pick all sorts of people" She got along with most of the people at the hall and was very sincere.
One of the newest anointed was someone I grew up around. She had a very disturbing family life growing up. The elder husband she married, eventually did her wrong. She became anointed around 30 or so. She certainly could turn on you in a second and be a witch. She believed she was, but she also used it to be over others. She hated that the elders looked down her as well as the GB making out that those of her age were "mistaken". I believe it helps her feel valued and special. But she doesn't impress me as being "christian"

What is the housing / accomodation living conditions of all of the Governing Body Members ? Does anybody know ?
by smiddy3 ini would be very curious to know what standard of living they have .
and what type of housing each member has and what type of accomadation do they have and even what type of areas they are living in .
unlike many of the rank & file members who live in housing estates provided for the low income earners and pensioners ?

I would think that they live a special wing at Warwick. Better security and all. They of course have their own heath care there too.

So many sci fi stories are like a commentary on religion or politics. Orwell's Animal Farm is correct on so many levels about the JW's and others.
I wish it was a fiction story that I missed. The JW one that is.

A Veblen good?
by Doug Mason inplease forgive me and do not castigate me for overthinking this.. there is a marketing "law" named veblen good (goods, effect) which says that if you make something very expensive, that will make it more desirable.
i know that sounds counter intuitive but think of the dyson fan, ferrari car, expensive perfume, and so on.
put the price really high and people will clamour for it.

My jw sister falls for that all the time. It has to be good because it is expensive.
The JW religion offers a paradise and the feeling that you are special because you know the truth but the rest do not.
Remember the commercials for BMW? It was all about being a snob and affording the very best. Then the economy tanked and suddenly BMW's became "affordable and the best" Just after that, I noticed that the worse drivers on the road - speeding and cutting you off - were the BMW's. Cause now they could be bought by the young and reckless.
Hasn't the JW religion done the same thing? Instead of being a snob to tv and electronic media, they now swallow it down and force the regulars to buy it. They do everything that they scoffed at what other religions were doing. Because they have also tanked and need the money and recruits.

Living in the last of the last days - A new prophecy
by Listener inalthough not a new concept by the watchtower, particularly in public talks and at assemblies, they have now put this prophecy in writing.watchtower oct 2019 page 8 -13 study no.40 titled -keep busy during the last of "the last days".
the first paragraph asks '1.
what convinces us that we are living in “the last days”?

This reminds me of an older ploy of the WT. Remember the statue of the world powers? It showed the stone from the mountain very close to the feet. One elderly sister told my sister "Look how close it is! It is almost touching the toes!" She was sure it was going to come soon.
Just after the overlapping generation, there was Armageddon coming "just around the corner"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFCf5Wy9PJs
After the last of the last days has lost it's usefulness, the new phrase will be "any second now, we will be in the final days"

'Experiences(tm)'! Made up or totally true??
by punkofnice inat one assembly(tm), i was asked to relate an 'experience(tm)' which i did.
however, during rehearsals, the geezer in charge elder or co or some such title, told me that i shouldn't tell it the way it was.
i did a 're-enactment(tm)' with another 'brother(tm)'.

My Favorite Fake Experience found in the Literature was the JW who witnessed to a businessman on a train. The businessman took the truth book and threw it out the window. The book sailed thru the air and hit a man who was going to commit suicide. He read the book instead and became a JW!
You just can't make it up - oh wait you can!

Really. Encouraging a senior to give away their money when they don't have enough for themselves is elder abuse.
